A woman has been remanded into custody accused of killing a mobility scooter user.

Kimberley Ann Hawkins, 41, of no fixed address, appeared before magistrates charged with the manslaughter of Neil Shadwick.

Mr Shadwick, 63, died following an incident in the car park of Tesco superstore on Stratford Road, Stroud on January 22 last year.

He was found unresponsive in the car park and without his mobility scooter, which he used as his mode of transport. He died in hospital the same day.

Hawkins appeared before Gloucestershire Magistrates’ Court in Cheltenham via videolink where she spoke to confirm only her name and date of birth.

Miguel Blanco, defending, did not apply for bail.

Presiding justice Julia Hurrell remanded Hawkins into custody and ordered her to appear before Gloucester Crown Court on June 14.

“I hope you have understood and heard everything that has been said,” she told Hawkins.

“We are going to send this charge of manslaughter against you to the crown court as this is not something that can be dealt with at the magistrates’ court.

“You will be remanded into custody.”
