The HS2 bill will soon be signed into law, signalling the start of two decades of misery for residents and businesses in Camden and passengers at Euston Station.

However, terminating HS2 temporarily at Old Oak Common would seriously mitigate the impact of HS2’s construction.

It would help to free up additional rail capacity at Euston which could then be used for the transit of spoil and building materials by contractors, much of which is set to be transported by road.

Under the current plans, HS2 platforms will be bolted on to the side of the existing terminus, leaving the current station to decay further. Delaying services into Euston offers the chance to create a fully integrated, world-class station.

We hope ministers seriously reflect on this before the diggers are in the ground.
