US STOCKS rose in the third quarter, lifting the S&P 500 index to its first back-to-back quarterly advances since the dot com crash of 2000. Technology shares such as Intel and Advanced Micro Devices along with such industrial companies as Caterpillar and US Steel, led the gains.
