A man who used to live on the streets before his life was transformed when A$AP Rocky heard him busking in Soho has played an exclusive gig in London to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless.

Using his own experiences of living on the streets, Joe played to a group of 80 people, including those who are currently being supported by the Islington-based charity Shelter From The Storm.

Joe was busking in Wardour Street, Soho, when he approached American rap star A$AP Rocky about buying a CD, despite not knowing who he was.

Rocky listened to his performance and decided to mentor Joe going forwards. Since then Joe has featured no less than five times on Rocky’s new album.

He said of the event:

“This is a real issue close to my heart. It feels good to be able to give something back to the volunteers and people in the same situation I came from.”

The event was organised to raise awareness of the help needed for people living on the streets.

Shelter From The Storm relies 100% on donations in order to keep running. In the past year alone, it has supported 159 people into their own accommodation and 75 into work.

Sheila Scott, founder of Shelter From The Storm said:

“We believe that star from the streets, Joe Fox performing for our guests has inspired them to believe that they too can achieve their dreams.”

She continues: “There is no normal; homelessness can happen to any of us – whoever they are wherever they’ve come from, but at Shelter from the Storm they’ll find a place of safety – a place of transformation – a place of hope”.

The gig was organized by London-based creative agency, Karmarama; Shelter From The Storm’s charity supporter.
