Viewing figures for GB News has plummeted.

The latest stats showed the news broadcast has fallen below Welsh language S4C shows such as Pobol y Cwm and Paw Patrol.

Andrew Neil’s controversial new channel debuted on June 13 with ratings of 336,000, beating competitors Sky News and BBC News.

However, recent figures revealed a dramatic drop in ratings, with only a maximum of 32,000 people tuning in on Thursday for Great British Breakfast while Mr Neil’s own flagship show attracted 31,000.

The decrease in viewers means ratings are now higher over on Welsh language S4C shows such as Pobol y Cwm which amasses 44,000 viewers, according to the latest S4C stats.

Elsewhere, Welsh language Paw Patrol, Patrol Pawennau, pulled over five times as many viewers, with 161,000 on Thursday.

BBC News at Ten had 3.6million viewers on Thursday with ITV News at Ten at 1.5million.

The latest figures come after Mr Neil, 72, announced that he is taking a break from GB News less than two weeks after he launched the channel.

Speaking during his usual 8pm slot on Thursday evening, Mr Neil said he would be away for a “few weeks” but would be back “before summer is out”.

Former Sky News presenter Colin Brazier will cover his show while he is away.

Mr Neil also acknowledged the channel had experienced a “rocky start” but said GB News’ audience was growing.

“In two short weeks, we’ve already built a loyal audience which has beaten all of our expectations, it’s often bigger than the other news channels and it’s growing,” he said.

“That’s the real story about GB News to date and you won’t often read that in the papers.

“So on behalf of GB News, I say to all of our viewers, thank you. We won’t let you down and you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
