Women and grime artists dominated the 2018 NME Awards with Lorde, J Hus, HAIM and Boy Better Know among the night’s big winners.

Some of the biggest names in British music descended on Brixton Academy for the annual event which saw Lorde crowned Best International Solo Artist while HAIM took home Best International Band.

Grime dominated the night with J Hus receiving the coveted Best Album gong for Common Sense, fighting off competition from Wolf Alice, Gorillaz, The National and Loyle Carner who picked up Best British Solo Artist.

On collecting his award from Naomi Campbell, J Hus said: “Mad, mad, mad. I don’t know what to say. I’m not really good at talking. I want to thank NME so much I worked so hard on that album.”

Alt-J won Best British Band while music heavyweights Kasabian were honoured with Best Live Artist.

Stefflon Don – who kicked off the night with a performance of Ding-A-Ling with Skepta – was crowned the Best New Artist over J Hus, The Magic Gang, Sigrid, SZA and Shame.

Boy Better Know were presented with the Innovation Award, while Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson was honoured with the Icon Award.

But Liam Gallagher was the night’s biggest winner, being honoured with the coveted Godlike Genius award. Previous recipients include Johnny Marr, Suede, Blondie and his brother Noel Gallagher, who accepted the title in 2012.

Taking to the stage in his trademark Parka, Liam said: “I want to dedicate this to my mum the one and f****** only and the army of songwriters that I’ve got past and present. As you f****** were.”
