Spurs have injury concerns all across the pitch

Injury-hit Tottenham are stumbling towards the end of the season.

There will be no Champions League football next season for Spurs, after Tuesday’s defeat to Manchester City, and it is now five defeats in six matches for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Australian was forced to shift from his usual game-plan against City, with Micky van de Ven filling in at left-back to cover for the injured Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie, while Pape Matar Sarr was the further forward at times for Spurs in the absence of forward options.

Yves Bissouma has also been ruled out of the conclusion to the season, which comes to an end for Tottenham this weekend with a trip to Sheffield United.

Here is your latest update of Tottenham injury news and return dates...

Richarlison

Richarlison’s season has been brought to a premature end by a calf injury, which has also ruled him out of the Copa America with Brazil this summer.

However, Postecoglou has insisted that the issue is “nothing serious”.

“He'll probably miss three or four weeks from what I understand,” the Spurs manager confirmed.

Potential return date: Summer 2024

Yves Bissouma

Malian midfielder Yves Bissouma is another player to have been hit by injury late in the season, suffering a knee problem in the win over Burnley on the penultimate weekend.

“Bissouma picked up a knee injury in the last game and he's out for the season,” said Postecoglou.

Timo Werner

A hamstring issue forced Werner off in the recent defeat to Arsenal, which led to him being ruled out of the final weeks.

Ben Davies

Ben Davies was primed to replace Destiny Udogie at left-back but has joined the Italian on the sidelines since suffering a calf injury during the defeat to Arsenal last month.

Destiny Udogie

Udogie’s season was brought to an end by an unspecified injury picked up last month.

The Italian left-back, who has enjoyed an excellent first season at Spurs, confirmed he had undergone surgery in a post on Instagram.

Postecoglou expanded on the issue during his pre-Arsenal press conference, saying Udogie’s surgery had gone well after an “unfortunate incident” in training that is expected to see him miss this summer’s European Championship with Italy as well as the rest of the domestic campaign.

“It was non-contact, he just went to have a strike at goal by himself and got the injury,” Postecoglou said.

Manor Solomon

Solomon has endured an injury-hit first season at Tottenham, having played just 198 minutes of football in total and undergone initial surgery on a knee problem back in September.

However, the winger did not recover sufficiently and needed another procedure in March that is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season.

“Lately I’ve been away from social media and focusing solely on my rehab and getting back on the field,” he said at the time. “The last period has been the most difficult and frustrating in my career.

“In the past 5 months I’ve been working as hard as possible to get back to doing what I love the most, but unfortunately, I haven’t fully recovered yet. At the same time, I’m full of motivation and will continue to do everything in order to be back stronger than ever to help my club & country. Thank you for your support, see you guys soon.”

Potential return date: Summer 2024

Fraser Forster

Guglielmo Vicario’s back-up has been unavailable since sustaining a foot fracture in training in mid-February.

He is unlikely to be in a position to return this season as third-choice goalkeeper Brandon Austin continues to provide cover for Vicario.

Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon will hope his latest surgery performed in February will finally rid him of the chronic hamstring problems that have hampered his career over recent years.

The 23-year-old underwent an operation on his right hamstring following an Under-21 game, having also had surgery on his left hamstring last year. Like Solomon and Forster, Postecoglou has said that he does not realistically expect Sessegnon to return to action this season.
