West Ham: David Moyes explains what must happen for him to remain as manager

The Hammers are already exploring successors

David Moyes says “things would need to be right between me and the club” if he were to stay on as West Ham manager beyond the summer.

The 61-year-old Scot is out of contract in the summer and is expected to leave, with the Hammers this week exploring possible successors in the form of Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui.

"The most important thing is that things would need to be right between me and the club," he said. "And if we get that right then we will see what happens - but it will be at the end of the season.

"You can continue to ask me the questions and I'm happy to take them. But it's not as if I've changed track in any way. We've always said it will be made at the end of the season and as far as I'm concerned that will still be the decision.”

Asked whether a decision will be made after the final game of the season, against Manchester City on May 19, he replied: “That's the way I see it and that's something that me and the board were happy to do.”

Moyes last year guided the Hammers to Europa Conference League glory but this season is struggling to secure another year of European football.

He continued:“We’re eighth in the Premier League at the moment; we’re just about to go into May. It’s an incredible position we’ve been in for nearly all the season. We’ll keep trying to make Europe; it would be a great achievement if we could do it four years in a row.”
