F1 news: Toto Wolff and Christian Horner in war of words over Max Verstappen future

World champion cruises to another win at Chinese Grand Prix

Toto Wolff and Christian Horner were immersed in a fresh war of words after the former hinted Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen could yet switch teams.

Red Bull boss Horner has previously said his star man will not leave because he is in the quickest car, but Mercedes chief Wolff stoked the fire by saying: “You can say, ‘Well, that’s the quickest car [with] the quickest driver’. But I don’t think that’s the only reason you stay. Maybe there is more depth to some people that consider other factors. I think Max has that depth.”

An angry Horner hit back, saying: “I don’t think Toto’s problems are his drivers. He has other elements he needs to focus on rather than drivers that are unavailable. I don’t know how many more times Max can say he is staying.”

Verstappen powered to another dominant win in Shanghai on Sunday, with Lando Norris coming second.
