Saracens lose Andy Christie for season with new arm fracture in major injury blow

Saracens flanker Andy Christie will miss the rest of the season due to a second broken arm suffered in less than a year.

The Scotland international sustained a new fracture in Friday night’s 41-30 Premiership defeat at Northampton.

Christie now needs surgery on the injury and will be out of action for three months.

Sarries attack coach Kevin Sorrell confirmed the 25-year-old has broken the same arm that required three operations to put right last season.

Christie’s first arm fracture came in early April 2023, complications from which later saw him miss the World Cup in France.

Now the combative flanker has suffered a new break of the same arm, ending his campaign prematurely.

“It’s the same arm, yeah,” confirmed Saracens assistant coach Sorrell.

“I don’t know the medical ins and outs but it’s a massive blow for Andy, his game’s progressed massively over the last 12 months really, in terms of consistency in his actions. It’s a massive blow.”

Scotland will tour North America in July, for Tests against Canada and the USA.

Christie’s recovery time frame hands him a chance of being ready to contest selection for his national side’s summer challenge.

Saracens will miss Christie’s dogged edge for the rest of the term however, with the Men In Black still battling for both the Premiership and Champions Cup.
